Trekking Picos de Europa

The La Travesera Trekking follows the route of the most important race in Picos de Europa, starting from Covadonga and ending in the town of Arenas de Cabrales , after crossing the three massifs of Picos de Europa and passing through its most emblematic places, such as the Lakes of Covadonga, the Jou Santu , the beautiful town of Caín, the Canal de Dobresengros , the Picu Urriellu , Moñetas, the Canal de Jidiellu , the Casetón de Andara,... A very complete route, which will impress you with the variety and beauty of its landscapes.

For five days, we will cross the Picos de Europa National Park , staying in spectacular places and getting to know some of the most emblematic and beautiful places in our spectacular National Park. A trek that you cannot miss.

Program:

 

Meeting point: Covadonga.               Duration: 5 days.

 

Day 1: On our first day of trekking, we will depart from the Basilica Covadonga (260m) , passing through Las Vegas de Orandi, Severín and Fana, to ascend to the paradisiacal place of the Lakes of Covadonga (1,100m) , where we will make a short stop. to enjoy its marvelous surroundings and its views towards the peaks of the massif. We will continue, crossing sheepfolds and meadows, towards the Vegarredonda Refuge, on the way to the main peaks of the Western Massif , where we will spend our first night.

Day 2: Demanding and precious day that passes through the highest levels of the Cornión massif, crossing one of the most impressive places in Picos de Europa such as Jou Santo , a place to enjoy. We will leave the Jou Santo through the Boquete, enjoying the incredible views towards the Massif Central  and the town of Caín , to which we will go down after a long descent through the Mesones canal to spend the night in this beautiful Leonese town.

Day 3: A day to put your legs to the test with the ascent of the Canal de Dobresengros . We will enter the Cares route, to leave it after the first tunnels and turn towards the Dobresengros channel, which we must climb completely to the Horcada de Caín , at 2,394m. Every effort has its reward and from this hour we will see the Picu Urriellu , symbol of the Picos de Europa. We will descend to the Vega de Urriellu, where we will spend our third night in the Urriellu Refuge .

Day 4: On this day we change massif again, leaving behind the Massif Central or the Urrielles to head for the Massif Oriental or Andara . We will surround the Picu Urriellu to ascend to Collada Bonita at 2,418m, the roof of this trek and a beautiful place where we can appreciate the entire south face of the Picu. We begin a long descent through the Moñetas Valley to the Duje Valley, which separates the two massifs, to enter the Jidiellu Canal, the challenge of the day. Once we have reached the Valdominguero pass, we will only have to descend to the Casetón de Andara Refuge , where we will spend our last night.

Day 5: On our last day, we will descend towards Hitu de Escarandi to head towards Collado Posadoiro, from where we will follow the Roman Path of Caoru to descend towards Arenas de Cabrales , the ending point of this magnificent trek. A short taxi ride will return us to Covadonga.

  • In the accommodation you can buy picnics for each day, avoiding carrying weight.

  • There are blankets in the accommodations. Carrying a thin sack or a sheet sack is enough.

  • The route may be altered depending on weather conditions, accommodation availability and/or other circumstances, always keeping in mind the safety of the group.
