Hiking Picos de Europa

Pena Castil, with 2,444 meters of altitude, is one of the main peaks of Picos de Europa, both for its beauty and for its location, very close to the Picu Urriellu, being an excellent and very close viewpoint towards this. From its top, in addition to Picu Urriellu, we can enjoy magnificent views of a large part of the Central Massif , of the Duje valley and of the entire western slope of the Eastern Massif, with its climax, La Morra de Lechugales (curiously with the same altitude as Peña Castil) in the foreground.

After a well-deserved rest at the La Terenosa Refuge, the next day, as a perfect complement to this activity, we will ascend to the main summit of Maín, an exceptional viewpoint of the Central Massif and Picu Urriellu, from which we will also be able to observe part of the two other massifs of Picos de Europa.

Program:

Meeting point: Sotres parking lot .           Duration: 2 days.

We start the route from the Invernales de Texu (880m), in the vicinity of Sotres, going up the Duje Valley, which separates the Central and Eastern massifs, so the walk through the valley is overwhelming, with mountains on either side of the path. Once the Vegas del Toro (1,067m), we deviate to the right to begin a long climb up the Fresnedal Canal, which will leave us in the Horcada Cambureru (2.051m), from which we only have to climb the magnificent shovel that leads to the summit of Peña Castil Peak (2.444 m).

Later we will go to the refuge of La Terenosa to enjoy a magnificent dinner and a well-deserved rest.

The next day, as a perfect complement to this activity, we will ascend to the main summit of Maín, an exceptional viewpoint of the Central massif and Picu Urriellu, from which we will also be able to observe part of the other two Picos de Europa massifs._cc781905-5cde- 3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_ From the summit, we descend to thePandébano Pass (1,212m), to continue the descent from here to the Invernales del Texu and ascend to Sotres, thus completing a beautiful and very complete circular route.lar.
