Vegabaño - Sajambre & Valdeón_2 days
Hiking Picos de Europa
Senderismo Picos de Europa

This activity takes place in one of the most charming, less known and uncrowed areas of the Picos de Europa National Park. Our trekking runs through the municipalities of Sajambre and Valdeón, in León county, the first one of which is mainly forested, although with peaks where you can enjoy views that fall in love and the second one is also wooded, but more mountainous, entering in the most important heights of the Central and Western massifs of the National Park.

We will enjoy the ascent to the Jarrio Peak, awesome viewpoint towards the Picos de Europa and the Cantabrian Mountains and above all the forest, habitat for multiple species, both flora as of fauna. In addition to the ubiquitous Beech and the Oak, we'll find steal, birch, ash, chestnut, lime, yew, hazel and holly.

The fauna that lives here is abundant and varied due mainly to the high degree of conservation and the great environmental diversity existing in this space, with the presence of the most emblematic species of the Cantabrian Mountains, such as the brown bear or the Cantabrian capercaillie. The most representative mammal of these mountains is the chamois, wild boar, roe deer and deer. The wolves are also abundant, as well as the marten, the genet, the wild cat, the otter, the ermine, the fox and the badger. Among the birds, the forest species stand out, such as the black whistle, the goshawk or the sparrowhawk. In the higher areas you can find great raptors such as the royal eagle, vulture, peregrine falcon, as well as the alpine sparrow, treparriscos, choughs, ravens and crows.

Vegabaño Refuge is one of the most charming lodges in the National Park, both for the environment in which it is located and for the staff that runs it. We speak of a territory, whose spectacularity and richness, both in natural and cultural values, and his state of conservation, is a mandatory visit and difficult to forget.
