Trekking in Peña Ubiña Natural Park
Trekking Asturias

The Macizo de Peña Ubiña , is a small mountain massif of singular beauty, which is located in the center of the Cantabrian Mountains, straddling the Asturian councils of Lena, Teverga and Quirós, and the Leonese region of Babia. Some authors of the XIX century called it the Agüeria massif. In the massif 58 summits of more than 2000 m are located , such as Peña Ubiña (2411 m), which gives its name to the massif, or Peña Rueda (2155 m), an imposing pyramid-shaped limestone mass. In Ubiña the highest heights of the Cantabrian mountain range are reached outside the Picos de Europa and its area of influence.

The Asturian area of the massif constitutes the Peña Ubiña-La Mesa Natural Park, which has been a Unesco biosphere reserve since July 11, 2012. The abundant forests are dominated by beech, oak and birch, and high mountain vegetation . In the area of the Puertos de Agüeria is the largest holly forest in Asturias . The fauna of the Cantabrian coast is present in the Ubiñas massif: Deer, Wild boar, Wolf, Deer, Rebeco, Roe deer, Nutria, Grouse and Brown Bear .
